- 3 cups water
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1 tsp jeera

- 1 tbsp lemon pickle for serving

- Wash properly rice and dal and soak for an hour
- Then heat ghee in a pressure cooker on low heat and add jeera, cloves and heeng
- Let them splutter then add haldi powder and soaked dal and rice, without water, roast them for 5 minutes
- Then add salt and water, cover the lid and cook for one whistle on high and 3 - 4 minutes on low heat, now switch off the gas
- When the pressure cooker completely cools down then only open the lid
- Now take out the khichdi in tart mould, press it nicely, then unmould it on a serving platter, in this way serve the other portions of khichdi
- Garnish with grated paneer, papad, hung curd and coriander leaves, all these accompaniments are must with khichdi, as it is said khichdi ke chaar yaar, dahi, papad, ghee aur achar
- Serve with curd, green chutney, lemon pickle and ghee
